I've always been passionate about challenging the term sustainability- as it's often used a marketing term. I'm interested in working with alternative materials and developing new ways to utilize them. Mycelium is the vegetative part of a fungus often found in soil that transfers nutrients. Recently researchers found that it's web-like structure can be grown into molds.
I wanted to explore the usage of this material in daily life. I made a prototype of a table made from mycelium grown into a mold I fabricated. I then dyed it with henna and hibiscus to give it a red/ earthy hue.
